The Month of Rajab
Rajab is the seventh month in the Islamic lunar calendar. This month was regarded as one of the sacred months (Al-Ashhur-al-hurum) in which battles were prohibited in the days of the Holy Prophet . It is also a prelude to the month of Ramadan, because Ramadan follows it after the intervening month of Sha'ban. Therefore, when the Holy Prophet sighted the moon of Rajab, he used to pray to Allah in the following words: "O Allah, make the months of Rajab and Sha'ban blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadan (i.e. prolong our life up to Ramadan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings)." Travelling Across Central Asia by Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi
This book details a visit to Central Asia by a renowned scholar of Tasawwuf, Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad. His visit in April 1992 ranged from Uzbekistan to Ukraine, Leningrad, Kirghystan, Moscow and many others. The beauty of the book lies in the simple narrative and descriptions of the places and inhabitants of the visited lands. Throughout the book one can only marvel at how the author, in his humble efforts and through his love for his creator, invites people to the fold of Islam, how he, through Allah’s guidance, calls those who had gone astray onto the straight path.
The book is appealing on many levels, with humorous anecdotes and observations of the Shaykh. It enlightens readers about how Islam was a towering force in Russia many years ago, and how, with the advent of communism, many Islamic values and ideologies were stripped away from those that practised Islam openly. However, perhaps one of the most striking features of the book is that it gives detailed accounts of those pious elders who struggled and strived in the face of all adversity, in order to keep alive the flame of Islam in a place that was determined to wipe it out. more to follow...
